Service Description

A Medical Weight Loss Consultation is a comprehensive evaluation performed by a licensed medical provider to determine the most appropriate, evidence-based treatment options for weight management. At IWC Primary Care, our approach goes beyond body weight alone by evaluating the medical, metabolic, behavioral, and lifestyle factors that influence overall health. The goal is to develop a personalized treatment plan that supports safe, sustainable weight loss while helping reduce the health risks associated with excess weight. During the consultation, our providers review medical history, current medications, previous weight loss efforts, nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and other factors that may affect metabolism and long-term weight management. When clinically appropriate, body composition analysis using the InBody 580 provides additional objective information about skeletal muscle mass, body fat, visceral fat, total body water, and lean body mass distribution. This clinical assessment offers a more comprehensive evaluation than body weight or body mass index (BMI) alone and may help guide individualized treatment planning and ongoing progress monitoring. The consultation also includes an assessment for obesity-related health conditions and risk factors, including prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol, fatty liver disease, obstructive sleep apnea, and cardiovascular disease. Additional laboratory testing, diagnostic studies, or specialty referrals may be recommended when clinically indicated to better understand factors contributing to weight gain or to support safe treatment decisions. Based on the evaluation, our providers develop an individualized medical weight loss plan that may include nutrition counseling, physical activity recommendations, behavioral strategies, ongoing medical follow-up, and, when clinically appropriate, FDA-approved weight loss medications. Treatment recommendations are guided by current clinical evidence, individual health goals, and each patient's medical history. Our Medical Weight Loss Program is designed to support long-term health rather than short-term dieting. Follow-up visits allow providers to monitor progress, review changes in body composition, evaluate treatment response, and make adjustments as health needs and goals evolve over time.
