Service Description

In 2018, the Center for Disease Control reported that 34.2 million people in the U.S. had diabetes. This accounts for about 10.5% of the population. Additionally, another 2.8% of the population did not know that they had diabetes. At Innovative Wellness Clinic, we help our patients prevent and control this chronic disease through a comprehensive, personalized treatment plan. WHAT IS DIABETES? Diabetes or “The Sugar” is a disease that occurs as a result of high amounts of sugar in the blood. The types of Diabetes include Type 1, also known as Juvenile Onset Diabetes or Insulin Dependent Diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease that results in the body being unable to produce insulin, which is an important hormone that regulates blood sugar. Type 2 Diabetes, previously known as Adult-Onset, occurs when the body doesn’t use the hormone insulin properly resulting in elevated blood sugar. Due to increasing rates of childhood obesity, Type 2 Diabetes is now becoming more common amongst children. Also, Gestational Diabetes occurs in women during pregnancy and increases the risk of contracting Type 2 Diabetes later in life. WHAT ARE COMMON SYMPTOMS RELATED TO DIABETES? Each patient may be affected by diabetes differently, but most of the common symptoms include: • Vision changes • Bladder issues • Weight loss • Tingling or numbness in hands or feet • Fatigue • Dry skin • Slow healing of sores HOW IS DIABETES TREATED? At IWC Primary Care, we utilize a personalized approach understanding that medicine isn’t one size fits all. Given that, we build a comprehensive healthy nutrition and lifestyle plan to complement pharmaceuticals, such as insulin, oral medications, or injectable anti-diabetic medications.
