A Day for Awareness, Access, and Action
Today, we join our partners across San Diego for the Community Health and Resource Fair, a free event offering on-site screenings, education, and resources for the whole family. November marks Diabetes Awareness Month, reminding us that small steps, such as regularly checking your blood sugar and blood pressure, can make a significant difference in your long-term health.

At the fair, you can receive:
• Diabetes, blood pressure, and cholesterol screenings
• Mammogram and breast exam services
• Eye exams, glasses, and vaccines
• Food distribution, Medi-Cal and CalFresh assistance, and more
It's free, local, and focused on prevention, the foundation of lifelong wellness.
Why Knowing Your Numbers Matters
Diabetes affects more than 37 million Americans, yet one in four does not know they have it. Early detection helps prevent complications such as heart disease, nerve damage, and kidney failure. Knowing your A1C, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels provides the information you need to make informed, empowered choices.
Health literacy, understanding what those numbers mean and how to respond, is a key part of prevention. When you understand your results, you can take practical steps toward achieving balance by combining a healthy diet, regular physical activity, and collaboration with your healthcare team.

Whole-Person Wellness
Managing or preventing diabetes is about more than numbers. It's about supporting your mind, body, and lifestyle. Balanced meals, regular physical activity, stress management, and community connection all contribute to healthy blood sugar levels and overall well-being.
At IWC Primary Care, we believe wellness begins with access and awareness. Our integrative approach helps you connect the dots between your daily habits, emotional well-being, and preventive care, enabling you to build a plan for long-term vitality.
Open Enrollment, Your Time to Choose Care That Cares

November also marks the start of Open Enrollment, the time to review your health coverage and select your primary care provider. Choosing the right team is essential for continuity of care, especially if you are managing chronic conditions or want to stay ahead of them.
If you are looking for a provider who listens, educates, and walks beside you, come see Dr. Suzanne Afflalo and the compassionate IWC team. We are here to help you understand your options, schedule screenings, and develop a personalized plan that suits your life.
Healthy communities begin with informed choices. Join us today at the Jackie Robinson YMCA or schedule a wellness visit at IWC Primary Care and take the next step toward a healthier, more empowered you.
