*High Fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is a sweetener made from cornstarch that is found in many processed foods. It was first introduced in the 1970s and has since been used as an additive in a wide variety of food products, including bread, cereals, candies, condiments, desserts, drinks, fruits, jams, jellies, sauces, and syrups. The main issue with HFCS is that it's not easily digested by the body. Unlike other sugars like glucose or fructose which are broken down by enzymes in the stomach and small intestine for energy production, HFCS can't be broken down at all. Thus, HFCS is not absorbed into the body's cells for use as fuel but is only stored as fat after passing through the digestive system.
